Old World Master Bath Before/After

I am a big believer in using what you have to create beautiful "new" spaces in your home.  It's what I do...it's what I love. But sometimes, there comes a time when you just have to tear out and start over. That time had come for our master bath.   So the renovation began...

Using rich colors and textures of copper sinks, mosaic tiles and granite along with some favorite artwork from around the world (which I already had:)) turned this much-needed renovation into a master bath with an "old world" feel.

Using larger floor tiles helps a small room appear larger so we went with an 18" tile set in a brick patten to give it a little more visual interest.  The same tile but in 12" pieces were used in the shower with the rich mosaic glass tile.

As you can see in the before photo, the shower was a closed in "cave" with a small opening for the door.  Not very conducive to easy access especially for someone 6'4" like my husband.:)  We bumped out the shower a bit on one side (didn't have much room to play with because of the French doors), removed the entire shower to build two half walls with a glass enclosure.  Besides helping the bathroom look and feel larger, you can see the beautiful tile with mosaic tile accent through the glass. We used two 36" vanities and added shelving in between to help keep the space open....perfect for towels and baskets for hair dryers and bath amenities.

The tub enclosure was also a problem area with dated mirrors surrounding the tub, a low soffit and tiled step in front of the tub....all removed with nothing but the tub left.  In keeping with the shower design, the same 12" shower tile and mosaic band was added along with a granite shelf on top of the tile....great for adding candles and accessories.  Using the same wood as the cabinets, wood-paneling was added to the front of the tub giving it a rich finished look.
